| Times Printers Group Goes an Extra Mile to Save the Earth |
 |
Times Printers Group (TPG), a member of Times Publishing Limited, was awarded the certification of Forestry Stewardship Council (FSC) recently.
This endorses its latest commitment today to conserve the environment in its printing facility in Singapore.
FSC is a voluntary, market driven certification and trademark system that allows customers to choose products that promote responsible management of the world's forests.
|
“We are taking every effort to conserve the environment and the FSC accreditation allows Times Printers Group to offer forest friendly paper options to our clients.
This is part of our social responsibility to the community as Singapore adheres to all UN mandated legislation on environmental issues,” said Mr. Sonny Tan, Head of Times Printers Group.
This is the second FSC accreditation certificate received by Times Printers Group. Its printing facility in Guangzhou, Everbest Printing was also awarded the FSC accreditation certificate.
All products printed by Times Printers Group for customers who endorse the FSC will now have a label that allows consumers worldwide to recognise products that support the growth of responsible forest management worldwide.
Times Printers Group is also actively looking into streamlining its internal work processes to reduce waste and enhance its productivity as part of its efforts to conserve the environment.
“To this end, we promote the principles of 3 Rs (reduce, reuse and recycle). These include reducing wastage by choosing effective sizes for printing materials such as magazines and books to maximise paper print. We have also made the move to paperless office processes,” added Sonny Tan.
Other ‘green’ efforts to protect the environment include installing a waste treatment plant in the premise to ensure harmful chemicals are not discharged into the drainage system and every attempt to ensure all waste products or by-products created from using suppliers products are treated and disposed off in compliance to existing local environment legislation. |

| Kudos to Everbest Printing (Panyu Nansha) Co. Ltd. |
 |
Yet another accolade for Times Printers Group as one of its key printing facilities, Everbest Printing is awarded International Council of Toy Industries (ICTI) Code of Business Practices.
This Code of Business Practices is committed on behalf of its member companies to the operation of toy factories in a lawful, safe, and healthful manner. It upholds the principles that no underage, forced, or prison labour should be employed; that no one is denied a job because of gender, ethnic origin, religion, affiliation or association, and that factories comply with laws protecting the environment.
|
This Code of Business Practices will also ensure supply agreements, with firms manufacturing on behalf of ICTI members must also provide for adherence to these principles. ICTI also work to inform, educate and survey its members so that individual member companies can adhere to its Code of Business Practices.

| Control Valve Management can pay off big |
In this article, Jeff Klatt shares with readers his experiences as a large paper mill’s valve asset manager and how much costs can be saved if an organization pays detailed attention to the operational processes. He explored the ways in which the mill can save cost in terms of control valve operation.
The first step is to identify the different valves in the mill and understand their roles in the papermaking process. Through this process, he was able to make use of new technology and smart instrumentations to identify problems and which areas required maintenance. With understanding, technology and predictive maintenance, the mill ended up reducing expenses.
